Program Update
We started the New Year with a program success
when we hired a non-residential participant on as a
full time staff of New Moms. This participant recently completed her extended Finishing Academy
Internship with New Moms where her primary duties included preparing meals during programming. As someone with a passion for culinary arts, she took
on the position of Non Residential Aide where her primary duties are in line with her career goals.
In February, we launched the Heart to Heart group curriculum, which is a 12-week program that helps moms learn how to prevent child sex abuse with their children. As a part of Heart to Heart, the moms will come up with a community service project where
they will help educate the public on child sex abuse prevention. At the end of the curriculum, the moms will graduate as certified advocates who work to prevent child sex abuse.
We recently had our annual Easter Celebration,
which both are residential and non-residential participants were invited to attend. The children participated in a traditional Easter egg hunt and went home with self-decorated Easter bags filled with treats. As spring approaches, we are looking to
expand our recruitment efforts in hopes of increasing our non residential program participation!

New Certification
In February, three non-residential staff
members participated in certified lactation training where they learned how to support
our moms who are breastfeeding.
Subsequently,
we have 4 new moms who are nursing their
little ones, and with continued support we
hope
to see an increase in
breastfeeding
by our moms.
Developmental Screenings
In addition to the lactation training, two other non-residential staff members are in the process of being certified in Denver Developmental Screening Tests. This is a widely used
assessment for examining children 0-6 years
of age as to their developmental progress.
