15-year-old Diana has lived with her grandmother ever since she was 8 years old, when the police rushed into her apartment and arrested her mother for drug distribution and prostitution.  Every couple of months, Diana would have to move into her aunt’s home, so she did not jeopardize her grandmother’s Section 8 housing certificate.  Last year, Diana’s aunt went into an alcohol rehab facility, and Diana had no place to stay, so she moved in with her boyfriend’s family temporarily. 

When she became pregnant, Diana was afraid that her grandmother wouldn't take her back in. 
For Diana, moving so often has made it difficult to attend school, but she tries to make it work.  She and her grandmother made a deal: if Diana enrolled in New Moms, she would be allowed to move back into her grandmother’s apartment.  Diana is so grateful to have the support of her New Moms’ home visitor, who has enrolled her in prenatal care, and is preparing her for what to expect once she delivers.  She and her grandmother both appreciate the groceries she brings home after her weekly New Moms Teen Parent Support Group meetings. 

Staff members are trying to get Diana added to her grandmother’s Section 8 certificate, so she and her child will be able to stay there without jeopardizing her grandmother’s housing. 

In the next few years, Diana expects to deliver a healthy baby, graduate from high school, then attend junior college.  She thinks she might like to be a nurse someday, or maybe even a substance abuse counselor.
